The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are a ska-core band from Boston, Massachusetts, United States (Bosstones is a play on Boston). They are credited with creating the ska-core genre, a form of music that mixes, to various degrees, elements of modern third-wave ska along with hardcore punk, jazz, and other influences. Their current lineup is Dicky Barrett (vocals), Joe Gittleman (bass), Lawrence Katz (guitar), Ben Carr (dancer, "Bosstone"), Joe Sirois (drums), Timothy "Johnny Vegas" Burton (saxophone), Kevin Leaner (saxophone) and Chris Rhodes (trombone)

Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
Buster Shuffle
Buster Shuffle
London's Buster Shuffle are getting ready for an all-out assault with the release of latest album 'Naked' on September 20th. Mixed by the former protege of megastar Adele producer, Paul Epworth - the much-in-demand Jamie Ellis (Florence & The Machine, The Rifles) - there's no question this album represents a collection of songs with the quality to propel the band to the status they so richly deserve. Set to be debuted at Bestival later this summer, standout songs, including the insanely catchy 'Naked', 'Devon' and 'South' (previewed to a sold-out London Barfly earlier in the year), boast truly inspired melodies and arrangements - an effortless fusion of ska and indie pop (think Madness crossed with Blur) with magnificently mischievous lyrics and a proper, authentic rock and roll sound. Already a big deal with a dedicated following on the European circuit, Buster Shuffle built their reputation touring the UK with the likes of The Holloways, The Wombats, Goldie Lookin' Chain and Chas 'n' Dave, before signing to EMI offshoot People Like You. Uncut magazine gave debut album 'Our Night Out' four stars, while the follow-up LP 'Do Nothing' (which featured collaborations with Micky Gallagher of The Blockheads/The Clash, Roddy Radiation of The Specials and contemporary indie heroes Ian Catskillkin of Art Brut and Wag of The Infidels) regularly charted on European bestseller lists as well as featuring on BBC Radio and XFM (where frontman Jet Baker was a regular on Danny Wallace's breakfast show). Sold-out shows in practically every major European city followed (from Berlin to Vienna and every letter in between), as well as high-profile festival slots alongside the likes of Lee Scratch Perry in Germany, Frank Turner in Czechoslovakia and massive arena shows in Italy with Drop Kick Murphys. Since then, UK supports with Madness, The Blockheads, The Rifles and Shed Seven, along with packed out in-store Fred Perry subculture gigs have further enhanced the band's burgeoning reputation. In 2013, Buster Shuffle conquered yet more new territories, playing to huge crowds at festivals in France and stepping up a level to world famous festivals including Dour in Belgium and Fusion in Germany, as well Wickerman and Rebellion in the UK. Buster Shuffle is … the virtuoso, creative behemoth, Jet Baker on piano and lead vocals, the best rhythm section you could hope to find in the shape of Terry Mascall on drums and Dave Gravy on bass, James Stickley, giving heart and soul, on guitar.
Dissonance & Dissent
Dissonance & Dissent
Dissonance & Dissent is a political ska-punk band from West Lafayette, Indiana. Finding themselves in ever shrinking scene/genre, the group tries to keep the spirit of punk, skacore, and ska alive, while also branding it with their own unique stamp. With politically charged lyrics, the angst, speed and aggression of punk, the catchiness of ska, and a high level of musical complexity rare in both punk and ska, the band hopes to leave their mark with the music they create; Wishing to not only influence and help re-spark the genres and local music scene, but also promote social and political awareness.
